Why do students who can “do” fraction problems still struggle to explain them? Too often, fraction instruction jumps to rules and procedures before students build a strong conceptual foundation. This session unpacks a coherent progression of fraction understanding from grades 3–5, showing how manipulatives and real-world contexts can support deeper reasoning and long-term retention.
