About me
Michael is a former secondary mathematics and Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics teacher with a Master’s degree in applied statistics. His relationship with Statistics had a rocky beginning, but the support and friendships he found in the AP Statistics community helped him to learn to love the subject and to embrace its differences to Mathematics. Michael built a strong and vibrant Statistics program at the high school in Bethesda, Maryland where he taught. He then worked for many years as a free-lance statistician and his journeys allowed him to teach and do statistics across Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America. Michael is now in his first year pursuing a doctorate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University. The difficulties he faced when first learning statistics have helped him to become a fierce advocate for teaching teachers how statistics needs to be understood and taught differently from the way mathematics is taught. And Michael firmly believes that the area under the curve will always integrate to 1.
