Participants will explore real classroom STEM projects, reflect on how feedback and revision build resilience, and collaborate in small groups to design a project-based activity that encourages students to learn from mistakes, improve through feedback, and build confidence.
Explore how music and visual arts can transform K–5 math warm-ups into engaging learning experiences. Participants will experience arts-integrated routines aligned to elementary math standards that promote creativity, discourse, representation, and problem-solving. Attendees will leave with classroom-ready activities that build mathematical thinking through music, visual art, and collaboration.
During this session participants will learn about small suggestions that can be put into action in the classroom immediately. These practices focus on highlighting and elevating student thinking while increasing student engagement. We will engage participants in learning about three instructional nudges that center the brilliance of students' thinking during group work and wrapping up a lesson.
Participants will examine how intentional instructional design, questioning techniques, discourse practices, and inquiry-based learning experiences can elevate rigor and deepen student understanding across content areas. Participants will attempt a challenging problem-solving task without immediate guidance. Afterward, they will reflect on emotions, strategies, and the importance of struggle in learning. Participants will sort sample questions into low-level and high-level categories and collaboratively revise questions to increase rigor.
