Hack the Brain: Using Cognitive Science to Build Math Memory that Sticks
Friday November 6, 2026 9:50am - 10:50am EST
Ready to hack the brain? Join us to explore how cognitive science transforms math retention. You’ll experience a "Working Memory Challenge" to see where learning breaks down, then tinker with explicit modeling techniques to reduce load. Finally, we’ll collaborate to design "4-Box Power Mini Sets"—a practical spiral review tool designed to beat the forgetting curve and make math stick!

Busy Isn’t Thinking: Using Classroom Evidence to Coach for Cognitive Lift
Friday November 6, 2026 11:00am - 12:00pm EST
Participants will examine classroom snapshots to determine whether students are simply busy or truly doing the mathematical thinking. Through evidence sorts, case studies, and coaching practice, they will identify where the cognitive lift lives and leave with tools to turn observations into next steps that strengthen discourse, ownership, and reasoning.

Raising the Bar (Model)
Friday November 6, 2026 12:10pm - 1:10pm EST
We often tell students to draw a picture to help them make sense of geometry problems. But what about algebraic ones? We will investigate how to use bar models, often used in elementary school mathematics but overlooked in secondary mathematics, to represent and solve linear word problems.

Supporting Multilingual Students’ Mathematical Participation: Insights for Teachers and Coaches
Friday November 6, 2026 1:20pm - 2:20pm EST
Join this session to think together about how to navigate challenges while supporting multilingual students’ mathematical participation. Participants will engage with four cases of pedagogical challenges that we encountered during a series of video-based coaching sessions. We will also share additional insights and resources for teachers and coaches to support multilingual students’ participation.
