This session focuses on the power of Mathematics Narratives for preparing pre-service teachers. The session will describe how writing a mathematics identity can transform a person’s narrative regarding mathematics. The purpose of this session is to demonstrate that with positive math narratives, students begin to see themselves as mathematicians (capable of doing and being successful in math).
Join AMTE-NC members and conference attendees for collaborative conversations around timely issues in mathematics teacher education and K–16 mathematics learning. Participants will engage in dialogue and resource sharing focused on data science in teacher education, sustainable pathways into mathematics teaching, and lesson planning with AI.
This session will explore how immersive learning strategies (i.e., group work, online learning platforms, “Rough Draft Math” approach) can reduce math anxiety, increase math ability, and build confidence. Participants of this session will be given the opportunity to act as students during example activities while also reflecting on how they can incorporate these ideas into their own teaching.
